Travel time reduced by 22%: the “Green Wave” system has been launched on another road section in Tashkent

On a 2-kilometre stretch of road from Furqat Street to Shota Rustaveli Street, specialists of the Traffic Organisation Centre of Tashkent City reconfigured the operating mode of 9 traffic light facilities and synchronised them with each other in accordance with the main directions of the morning and evening traffic flows.

The “Green Wave” system has been adjusted to the average traffic flow speed of 45–55 km/h:

— in the morning — from Furqat Street towards Shota Rustaveli Street;
— in the evening — in the opposite direction, from Shota Rustaveli Street towards Furqat Street.

📊 After the traffic lights were synchronised, the time required to cover this section of the road during peak hours was reduced from 9 minutes to 7 minutes.
That is, drivers are now covering this 2-kilometre stretch approximately 2 minutes faster than before, and the overall travel time has decreased by 22% — by more than one-fifth.

Most importantly, this result was achieved not by increasing the speed of movement, but by coordinating the traffic lights at successive intersections. The traffic lights have been configured in such a way that the traffic flow moves at a steady pace, while unnecessary stops, repeated braking and acceleration are reduced.

For comparison: when the roads are relatively free, this 2-kilometre section is usually covered in 6–7 minutes. After the “Green Wave” was adjusted, even during peak hours this indicator is approximately 7 minutes.

In other words, the travel time during peak hours has now almost equalled the indicator for periods when the road is relatively empty.

🚘 Thus, the precise and mutually coordinated adjustment of just 9 traffic lights on a 2-kilometre road section has made it possible to reduce the time spent covering this road during peak hours by 22%.
