Tashkent’s main strength is its people

📈In the Global Cities Index 2026 ranking, Tashkent rose 128 positions and took 343rd place among the world’s thousand largest cities. In the economic category, the capital made an even more significant leap: within one year it rose from 558th to 188th place.

✔️But there is a result of which we are particularly proud. Tashkent ranked 108th in the world in terms of human capital. In 2024 the city was in 136th place, and in 2025 — in 123rd place. In three consecutive editions of the ranking we see steady growth in the direction that reflects people’s knowledge, skills and professional potential.

This is not the only international recognition of Tashkent’s dynamics. In the study “Built to Change: How Cities Compete for the Future” conducted by Boston Consulting Group in 2025 and published on 21 May 2026, Tashkent ranked third among 80 cities of the world in terms of the speed of change, after only Shenzhen and Riyadh. At the same time, the capital took first place in terms of the speed of changes in economic activity. BCG evaluates not only the current state of a city, but also how quickly it is developing, adapting and improving conditions for the population. The study covers more than 200 indicators and takes into account the results of a survey conducted among 24 thousand residents of cities around the world.

📊Behind the numbers stand the people who create the future of the capital every day: teachers and doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs, specialists of city services, students and young professionals. Tashkent is becoming stronger thanks to their knowledge, initiatives and labour. That is precisely why people remain at the centre of decisions on the development of the city.

These results became possible thanks to the changes being implemented on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the attention paid by the Presidential Administration to the development of the capital, the coordinated work of the city and district teams, the efforts of business and the direct participation of the population. International analysts included Tashkent in the “Cities to Watch” list — cities whose development should be monitored. For us, this is recognition of our joint work and a reason to be proud of our city.

🟢However, a high place in the ranking acquires meaning only when the changes are felt in everyday life. Much work still lies ahead of us to improve the quality of the urban environment, clean air and the convenience of every district. Economic growth must turn into new opportunities for people — to study, work, build their own business and raise their children in Tashkent.
